  • HSS is honored to have been invited by The Denver Post to weigh in as industry experts on the article “Know the Drill? Security Experts See Shift From On Fire to Under Fire,” published December 6, 2015. HSS has been known to be the healthcare industry leader in safety and security for nearly 50 years. Our very own, Alan Butler (Vice-President of Healthcare Security) and Jeff Puttkammer (Director of Learning and Development), were asked to weigh in on what the safety and security industry is doing to prepare organizations for a diverse array of threats from active shooter situations to weather emergencies. Many businesses are seeking answers and advice to safety questions that were once thought to be of too little concern to allocate resources to preparing for such a scenario. The balance between providing training and the reality of such threats occurring is an interesting statistical gamble, but the protocol of run-hide-fight is still a national strategy for many potentially violent scenarios.
